Mt Shuksan

This picture of Mt Shuksan (elevation 9127 feet) overlooking Picture Lake was taken at Austin Pass near the Eastern end of Route 542, Washington.  Mt Shuksan, created 120 million years ago, is an eroded remnant of a thrust fault formed when the Eastern Plate collided with the North American Plate.  Many years ago, ice age glaciers moved through this area, gouging out hollows in the lava bed as they flowed down the mountain below.  Over time the glaciers retreated to higher cliffs, leaving behind water-filled depressions like Picture Lake.  Pretty awesome, I'd say!
