This picture of Clements Mountain was taken at Logan's Pass on Going-To-The-Sun Road in Glacier National Park, Montana. Notice the snowfield at the base of the mountain. At one time this snowfield was a Glacier. When snowfall is high enough that it doesn't all melt in the summer, it piles up from year to year forming a snowfield. Over many years the ever increasing snow compacts into ice. Once the ice becomes thick enough, its own weight causes the bottom layer to move downhill. As this river of ice flows, it becomes a glacier. Pretty neat, wouldn't you say!
I didn't know that...good job...another pretty pic..
