Sheepeater Cliffs

This picture was taken of Sheepeater Cliffs located South of Mammoth Hot Springs along Gardner River in Yellowstone National Park.  The cliffs are made up of columnar basalt that were deposited from lava some 500,000 years ago.  These cliffs then became exposed by The Gardner River.  The name Sheepeater came from a Shoshone Indians name Tukuaduka.

  1. YNP has very unique formations! Almost looks man-made at first glance.
