This picture of Emmons Glacier was taken at Sunrise Point at the end of the trek up to Mt Rainier, Washington. The Emmons Glacier is just one of the numerous glaciers that start from the summit of Mt Rainier. The terminus or front edge of the glacier can best be identified as the blackened area lower middle in the photo. The black oval shaped area just left of this blackened area is the opening where the melted ice exits the glacier. One can see the water flow from this area. The area in the valley, from the terminus back is the Emmons Glacier. Its 4.3 square miles of surface area makes it the largest glacier in the lower 48 states. This is truly amazing folks!
