Sinclair Lewis House
This picture is taken of Sinclair Lewis Boyhood Home located at 810 Sinclair Lewis Avenue in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. Sinclair lived here from age four (4) until graduating from High School. It was while he lived here that inspired him to write the novel Main Street, which brought him both fame national and scrutiny from the town folks. Other novels include Elmer Gantry, Arrowsmith, Dodsworth, and Babbitt. Sinclair was the first American writer in 1930 to win the Nobel Prize of Literature. Since then a total of six (6) other Americans have won it. The list includes Eugene O'Neill, Pearl S Buck, William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, and Saul Bellows. Pretty good company, I'd say!

ReplyDeleteI like it.....now they name the street after him, but at the time.....not so much. Funny how those green pieces of paper can bring about a change of opinion. :-)
